The largest-ever auction of Princess Diana’s fashion items is set to take place on June 26 at The Peninsula Beverly Hills in the United States. Hosted by Julien’s Auctions, the event will feature over 100 personal items from the late princess — including dresses, hats, handbags, and shoes — each reflecting her elegance, personality, and iconic role as the “People’s Princess.”
One of the auction’s highlights is the “Caring Dress”, a floral silk dress by Bellville Sassoon that Diana famously wore during hospital visits. It is expected to fetch up to $300,000. Other standout pieces include a cream evening gown by Catherine Walker, worn during her 1986 Gulf tour, and a yellow floral ensemble by Bruce Oldfield, worn to Royal Ascot in 1987.
Also going under the hammer are a Dior handbag gifted to her by former French First Lady Bernadette Chirac in 1995, a sketch and fabric cuttings from Diana’s 1981 wedding dress, and a peach-colored hat she wore during her honeymoon departure. Each of these items is estimated to sell for no less than $200,000.
In addition to Diana’s belongings, the auction will include items from other members of the British royal family, such as Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother.
Martin Nolan, Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions, noted that such pieces are increasingly seen as valuable investment assets, citing a past sale where one of Diana’s dresses sold for $1.14 million. Part of the proceeds from this auction will be donated to Muscular Dystrophy U.K.
A pre-auction exhibition is currently on display at the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge, Ireland, and runs through June 17, offering a rare chance to view the collection before the world watches these royal treasures go under the hammer.
