รายงานระบุว่ามีคู่รัก 147 คู่ได้แสดงเจตจำนงค์ร่วมกันในบรรยากาศอันอบอุ่น สะท้อนถึงการต่อสู้เพื่อความเท่าเทียมทางสิทธิที่ดำเนินมาอย่างยาวนาน พิธีการเริ่มต้นด้วยการแสดงคอนเสิร์ตจากคณะนักร้องประสานเสียงเกย์แห่งเม็กซิโกซิตี้ ตามด้วยพิธีทางแพ่งเพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนคำปฏิญาณและรับรองการสมรสอย่างเป็นทางการ นายริคาร์โด เมร์คาโด หนึ่งในเจ้าบ่าวกล่าวว่า “ผมบอกตัวเองว่าวันนี้เป็นเพียงวันธรรมดา แต่กระนั้นผมก็รู้สึกตื่นเต้นและซาบซึ้งใจ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งเมื่อได้เห็นชุมชน LGBTQ+ มารวมตัวกัน ณ ที่แห่งนี้ สัมผัสได้ถึงพลังงานอันเปี่ยมด้วยความสุข”
กรุงเม็กซิโกซิตี้ได้รับการยอมรับในฐานะผู้นำระดับโลกด้านการรับรองการสมรสระหว่างบุคคลเพศเดียวกัน โดยได้ประกาศใช้กฎหมายรับรองตั้งแต่ปี 2552 พิธีสมรสหมู่นี้ถือเป็นประเพณีประจำปีที่จัดขึ้นในช่วงเดือนแห่งความภาคภูมิใจของนครหลวงแห่งนี้ ซึ่งในปี 2566 คู่รักเพศเดียวกันและบุคคลข้ามเพศจำนวนมากได้ร่วมเฉลิมฉลองพิธีสมรสและดำเนินการจดทะเบียนทางกฎหมายให้แล้วเสร็จ โดยทางการนครหลวงแถลงว่ามีคู่รักประมาณ 120 คู่ที่มีคุณสมบัติครบถ้วนในการเข้าร่วมพิธีภายใต้คำขวัญ “เคียงคู่ก้าวเดิน ด้วยความภาคภูมิใจ” อีกทั้งสำหรับในปี 2565 พิธีดังกล่าวได้จัดขึ้นอีกครั้งเป็นครั้งแรกในรอบสองปี ภายหลังจากต้องระงับไปเนื่องด้วยสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 (COVID -19) ภายในงานมีการจัดเตรียมเค้กมงคลสมรสขนาดใหญ่ประดับประดาด้วยน้ำตาลสีรุ้งเพื่อแบ่งปันแก่ผู้ร่วมงานทั้งนี้ พิธีสมรสดังกล่าวได้รับการสนับสนุนงบประมาณจากองค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่น ซึ่งช่วยให้คู่รักสามารถจัดพิธีสมรสได้โดยประหยัดค่าใช้จ่าย

Over 100 same-sex couples get married at mass wedding ceremony in Mexico
Last Friday in Mexico City, Mexico, over a hundred same-sex couples participated in a mass wedding ceremony, marking a grand celebration that was both romantic and politically significant. This event was part of Mexico City’s gay pride celebrations month.
According to reports, more than 147 couples expressed their commitment to each other in a heartwarming gathering, symbolizing their years-long fight for equal rights. The ceremony began with a concert by the Gay Choir of Mexico City, followed by a civil ceremony to exchange vows and formalize the marriages.Ricardo Mercado, one of the grooms, stated, “I told myself that today is just an ordinary day. But I do feel nervous and emotional, especially this nice feeling with all the LGBTQ+ community united here, and you can feel the positive energy.”
Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, has been recognized as a global leader in recognizing same-sex marriages, having legalized such unions since 2009. This mass wedding ceremony for same-sex couples is an annual tradition held during the city’s pride month.
In 2023, numerous same-sex couples and transgender individuals in Mexico City celebrated their weddings and completed legal registration processes. That same year, city officials announced that approximately 120 couples met the requirements to participate in the wedding ceremony under the slogan “Hand in hand, we march with pride.” In 2022, the ceremony was held again for the first time in two years, after being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event featured a large wedding cake decorated with rainbow frosting, shared among the participants. This wedding ceremony is financially supported by local government organizations, enabling couples to hold their wedding ceremonies economically.
