เมื่อวันพุธที่ 17 กรกฎาคม 2567 ที่ผ่านมา ได้เกิดเหตุการณ์สลดใจขึ้นที่โรงแรมแกรนด์ ไฮแอท เอราวัณ ซึ่งเป็นโรงแรมห้าดาวตั้งอยู่ใจกลางย่านธุรกิจของกรุงเทพฯ ใกล้กับศาลพระพรหมเอราวัณ สถานที่ท่องเที่ยวชื่อดัง เจ้าหน้าที่โรงแรมพบศพทั้ง 6 ในห้องพักชั้น 5 หลังจากผู้เข้าพักไม่ได้คืนห้องตามกำหนดเวลาเป็นระยะเวลานานกว่า 24 ชั่วโมง
เมื่อตำรวจมาถึงที่เกิดเหตุ พบศพชาย 3 ศพ และหญิง 3 ศพ ประกอบไปด้วยชาวอเมริกันเชื้อสายเวียดนาม 2 คน และชาวเวียดนาม 4 คน อายุระหว่าง 37-56 ปี โดยมีคู่สามีภรรยาชาวเวียดนามรวมอยู่ด้วย พร้อมกับอาหารที่ยังไม่ได้แกะห่อพลาสติกบนโต๊ะ และแก้วที่ใช้แล้วซึ่งมีคราบผงสีขาวอยู่ โดยประตูห้องถูกล็อกจากด้านใน แต่ประตูด้านหลังไม่ได้ล็อก
ผลการตรวจสอบเบื้องต้นพบสารไซยาไนด์ในกาน้ำชาและถ้วยกาแฟทั้งหมด รวมถึงในตัวอย่างเลือดของผู้เสียชีวิตอย่างน้อยหนึ่งราย ตำรวจสันนิษฐานว่าหนึ่งในผู้เสียชีวิตอาจเป็นผู้วางยาพิษคนอื่น โดยสั่งอาหารและเครื่องดื่มเข้าห้องพักก่อน แล้วจึงมีสมาชิกคนอื่น ๆ เข้ามาร่วมวง
จากการสอบสวนญาติผู้เสียชีวิตทราบว่าเหตุการณ์นี้ อาจเกี่ยวข้องกับปัญหาการลงทุนที่ไม่ประสบความสำเร็จ โดยหนึ่งในผู้เสียชีวิตเป็นนายหน้าการลงทุน และทั้งหมดได้ร่วมลงทุน แต่ธุรกิจไม่เป็นไปตามที่คาดหวัง จึงนัดพบกันที่ประเทศไทยเพื่อหารือเรื่องดังกล่าว
เหตุการณ์นี้ได้รับความสนใจจากนานาชาติ โดยทางการสหรัฐฯ และเวียดนามได้รับทราบและกำลังประสานงานกับเจ้าหน้าที่ไทยอย่างใกล้ชิด ทั้งนี้ ตำรวจยังคงสอบสวนอย่างละเอียดเพื่อหาสาเหตุที่แท้จริงของเหตุการณ์สลดครั้งนี้

Thai Police Reveal Preliminary Findings: Cyanide Poisoning Suspected in Deaths of Six at Luxury Bangkok Hotel
On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded at the Grand Hyatt Erawan, a five-star hotel situated in Bangkok’s central business district, near the famous Erawan Shrine tourist attraction. Hotel staff discovered six bodies in a fifth-floor room after the guests failed to check out for over 24 hours.
Upon arrival at the scene, police found the bodies of three men and three women, comprising two Vietnamese Americans and four Vietnamese nationals, aged between 37 and 56 years, including a Vietnamese married couple. The room contained unopened food in plastic wrapping on a table and used glasses with traces of white powder. The main door was locked from the inside, while a back door remained unlocked.
Preliminary examinations revealed the presence of cyanide in teapots and coffee cups, as well as in at least one blood sample from the deceased. Police suspect that one of the deceased may have poisoned the others, having ordered food and beverages to the room before the other members joined.
Investigations, including interviews with relatives of the deceased, suggest that the incident may be linked to unsuccessful investments. One of the deceased was reportedly an investment broker, and all had jointly invested in a business venture that failed to meet expectations. They had arranged to meet in Thailand to discuss the matter.
This incident has garnered international attention, with both U.S. and Vietnamese authorities acknowledging the situation and closely coordinating with Thai officials. The police are continuing their thorough investigation to determine the true cause of this tragic event.
