โดนัลด์ ทรัมป์ อดีตประธานาธิบดีสหรัฐฯ ได้สร้างความฮือฮาเมื่อเร็วๆ นี้ ด้วยการกล่าวหาว่าไต้หวันแย่งชิงความเป็นผู้นำในธุรกิจผลิตชิปคอมพิวเตอร์มูลค่ากว่า 5 แสนล้านดอลลาร์ไปจากสหรัฐฯ ทรัมป์อ้างว่าไต้หวันครอบครองอุตสาหกรรมนี้เกือบ 100% และสหรัฐฯ ไม่ควรปล่อยให้เกิดเหตุการณ์เช่นนี้
ผู้เชี่ยวชาญในวงการได้ออกมาชี้แจงว่า ข้อกล่าวหานี้ไม่เป็นความจริง ไต้หวันพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมเซมิคอนดักเตอร์ (Semi – Conductor) ของตนเองขึ้นมาอย่างเป็นระบบ ด้วยการวางแผนที่ดี ความขยันหมั่นเพียร และการลงทุนอย่างต่อเนื่อง
จุดเริ่มต้นของความสำเร็จเกิดจากมอร์ริส ฉาง ผู้ก่อตั้ง TSMC ในปี 1987 เขานำเสนอแนวคิดธุรกิจ “pure-play foundry” ที่มุ่งเน้นการรับจ้างผลิตชิปตามแบบของลูกค้า ซึ่งก่อให้เกิดการปฏิวัติวงการในขณะนั้น
ปัจจุบัน ไต้หวันผลิตชิปขั้นสูงมากกว่า 90% ของโลก โดย TSMC เป็นผู้นำด้านเทคโนโลยีการผลิตชิปที่ก้าวหน้าที่สุด ความสำเร็จนี้เกิดจากการพัฒนาการผลิตอย่างต่อเนื่อง การลงทุนมูลค่าสูง และระบบนิเวศทางเทคโนโลยีที่ครบวงจรของไต้หวัน
ทรัมป์ยังกล่าวว่า ไต้หวันควรจ่ายค่าป้องกันให้สหรัฐฯ ซึ่งสร้างความกังวลในไต้หวันเกี่ยวกับอนาคตความสัมพันธ์กับสหรัฐฯ หากทรัมป์ได้รับเลือกเป็นประธานาธิบดีอีกครั้ง
ท่ามกลางความตึงเครียดในช่องแคบไต้หวันและการแข่งขันระหว่างสหรัฐฯ กับจีน TSMC นี่เองทำให้ไต้หวันจำเป็นต้องขยายฐานการผลิตออกนอกประเทศ โดยกำลังสร้างโรงงาน 3 แห่งในรัฐแอริโซนา แต่ก็ประสบปัญหาในการปรับตัวเข้ากับวัฒนธรรมการทำงานที่แตกต่างกัน
ทางด้านผู้เชี่ยวชาญแนะนำให้บริษัทผลิตชิปหาวิธีทำงานร่วมกันเพื่อผลประโยชน์ร่วม และ TSMC ควรปรับระบบการผลิตให้เข้ากับวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่นในแต่ละประเทศที่ขยายไป เพื่อก้าวสู่การเป็นบริษัทระดับโลกอย่างแท้จริง

Trump Accuses Taiwan of Stealing Chip Industry, but Reality Differs
Former US President Donald Trump recently caused a stir by accusing Taiwan of usurping America’s leadership in the $500 billion computer chip manufacturing industry. Trump alleged that Taiwan now controls nearly 100% of this sector, asserting that the United States should not have allowed this to happen.
Industry experts, however, have refuted these claims. They clarify that Taiwan has systematically developed its own semiconductor industry through meticulous planning, diligence, and continuous investment.
The genesis of Taiwan’s success can be traced back to Morris Chang, who founded TSMC in 1987. Chang introduced the revolutionary “pure-play foundry” business model, which focused on manufacturing chips based on client designs, fundamentally transforming the industry landscape.
Currently, Taiwan produces over 90% of the world’s advanced chips, with TSMC at the forefront of cutting-edge chip manufacturing technology. This success stems from continuous production improvements, substantial investments, and Taiwan’s comprehensive technological ecosystem.
Trump further suggested that Taiwan should pay the United States for defense, raising concerns in Taiwan about future US relations should Trump be re-elected as president.
Amid tensions in the Taiwan Strait and intensifying US – China competition, TSMC has found it necessary to expand its production base beyond Taiwan. The company is currently constructing three factories in Arizona, although it faces challenges in adapting to different work cultures.
Experts recommend that chip manufacturers find ways to collaborate for mutual benefit. They advise TSMC to adapt its production systems to local cultures in each country where it expands, in order to truly evolve into a global corporation.
