The helicopter crash happened just weeks after Iran launched a drone-and-missile attack on Israel in retaliation for a deadly strike on its diplomatic compound in Damascus. Rescuers were facing dense fog and severe cold in the remote, mountainous East Azerbaijan Province. There were nine people onboard the helicopter, including the country’s foreign minister. Search and rescue teams have reached the area where a heat source was detected in the mountainous region of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, according to Iran’s semi-official FARS news agency. The bodies of those who died in the helicopter crash that killed Iran’s president will be transported to the city of Tabriz, according to the head of the Iranian Red Crescent, as reported by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News. Authorities suspected that the heat source might be linked to the helicopter crash that involved nine people, including President Raisi and the foreign minister.
