Silicon Valley Billionaires Turn Their Backs on Biden, Pivoting to Support Trump for Business Interests
While Silicon Valley has long been a stronghold for the Democratic Party, several technology billionaires have recently begun openly supporting former President Donald Trump.
The primary reason is not an alignment with far-right policies, but rather dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden’s administration, particularly regarding antitrust enforcement and hostile stance towards digital currencies.
Elon Musk has explicitly declared his support for Trump, donating over $100 million to America PAC, a pro-Trump political action committee. Other investors and technology company founders, including David Sacks, the Winklevoss twins, and Joe Lonsdale, have also begun backing the former president.
Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, two renowned Silicon Valley investors, have expressed clear discontent with the Biden administration, stating, “The current American government is more hostile to new startups than ever before.”
However, experts note that Trump supporters in the technology sector remain a minority. Most CEOs of major companies have not become deeply involved in partisan politics and are prepared to work with whichever candidate wins the election.
A White House spokesperson responded, asserting that the Biden administration is committed to balancing innovation promotion with consumer protection. They emphasized that antitrust policies are designed to foster fair market competition.
Political analysts predict that this shift could impact fundraising for the upcoming presidential election and potentially lead to changes in technology policies if Trump emerges victorious in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
