At least 30 people have died due to the heavy rains hitting Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador this week, according to authorities in each country. In El Salvador, the storms have claimed 19 lives, as reported by Luis Alonso Amaya, the director of Civil Protection. Among the victims are two minors who perished when a landslide buried their home in the Soyapango district, approximately six miles from the capital, San Salvador.
Over 2,500 people in El Salvador have been evacuated from their homes and placed in shelters. In Guatemala, 10 people have died due to the heavy rains, and over 350 people have been evacuated and are staying in shelters, according to the country’s National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred). Meanwhile, Honduras is also experiencing severe weather impacts, adding to the crisis in the region. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide necessary assistance.
