Paris’s famed Champs-Élysées will host an exclusive event, transforming into a colossal picnic site for 4,000 lucky winners to access on May 26. Organised by the Champs-Élysées committee and LG Electronics France, the event offers a unique experience. Participants will gather around a giant red and white chequered picnic blanket, provided with complimentary picnic baskets brimming with treats from iconic avenue eateries. However, access is limited, with tickets awarded through a lottery system. This grand picnic promises to be a memorable affair, blending Parisian charm with the allure of one of the world’s most celebrated streets.
From the Arc de Triomphe to the intersection of Avenue George V, the Champs-Élysées will experience a remarkable transformation into a car-free picnic area. Divided into nine zones, each offering French delicacies and outdoor games, the scene will be a departure from its usual bustling traffic. A 216-metre gingham picnic blanket, stretching from rue Arsène Houssaye to Avenue George V, will be a sight to behold. Each square on the red-and-white chequered blanket will seat six, dubbed “lucky epicureans” by organisers. Winners of the ballot can attend one of two sittings at 12:00 or 2:00 pm, potentially earning the event a Guinness World Record for its 4,212-square-metre area.
The picnic offers a unique chance to witness the avenue’s transformation. While the road has hosted large cinemas previously, this marks its inaugural food-centric event. However, with just 4,000 tickets available, many enthusiasts may miss out. To participate, swift action is essential. Interested individuals must apply for tickets via the official Paris City Hall website. Although registration is open to all, minors must be accompanied by adults. Groups of up to six individuals from the same family or party can enter the ballot together. Winners, selected via a prize draw, will be notified in May about securing a spot on the iconic Parisian picnic blanket.
