เหตุการณ์ชุลมุนในพิธีกรรมทางศาสนา ณ รัฐอุตตรประเทศ ทางตอนเหนือของประเทศอินเดีย ส่งผลให้มีผู้เสียชีวิตมากกว่าหนึ่งร้อยคน โดยส่วนใหญ่เป็นสตรี นับเป็นหนึ่งในเหตุการณ์ที่มีผู้เสียชีวิตมากที่สุดในรอบหลายปีของประเทศ เหตุการณ์นี้เกิดขึ้นที่หมู่บ้านมุฆัล คาร์ฮี ห่างจากกรุงนิวเดลีประมาณ 200 กิโลเมตร ในงานสวดมนต์ที่นำโดย โภเล บาบา ผู้อ้างตนเป็นนักบุญ โดยมีผู้เข้าร่วมงานประมาณ 250,000 คน ซึ่งเกินกว่าจำนวนที่คาดการณ์ไว้ถึงสามเท่า
ส่วนสาเหตุของโศกนาฏกรรมดังกล่าว เกิดจากการที่ผู้คนเบียดเสียดกันเพื่อสัมผัสเท้าของโภเล บาบา ซึ่งหลังจากจบงาน ได้มีผู้เสียชีวิตอย่างน้อย 121 คน และบาดเจ็บ 35 คน โดยผู้เสียชีวิตส่วนใหญ่เป็นสตรี รวมถึงเด็กอย่างน้อย 7 คน ทั้งนี้ มีผู้เสียชีวิตจำนวนหนึ่งตกลงไปในท่อระบายน้ำเปิดบริเวณใกล้เคียงสถานที่จัดงาน
เจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจกำลังดำเนินการสืบสวนผู้จัดงานและติดตามตัวโภเล บาบา โดยตั้งข้อหารวมถึงฆ่าผู้อื่นโดยประมาท นอกจากนี้ ยังมีการวิพากษ์วิจารณ์ถึงความบกพร่องในการจัดการด้านความปลอดภัย เนื่องจากมีเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจเพียงประมาณ 40 นาย ที่ปฏิบัติหน้าที่ดูแลความปลอดภัยในงานดังกล่าว

Crush at an Indian religious event kills more than 120, mostly women
A tragic incident occurred during a religious ceremony in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, resulting in over one hundred fatalities, predominantly women. This event stands as one of the deadliest in the country in recent years. The incident took place in Muradnagar village, approximately 200 kilometers from New Delhi, during a prayer gathering led by Bhole Baba, a self-proclaimed saint. The event attracted an estimated 250,000 attendees, triple the anticipated number.
The cause of this calamity was attributed to a stampede as devotees rushed to touch the feet of Bhole Baba. In the aftermath, at least 121 individuals lost their lives, and 35 were injured. The majority of the deceased were women, including at least seven children. Some fatalities occurred when individuals fell into an open drain near the event venue.
Law enforcement officials are investigating the event organizers and are seeking to apprehend Bhole Baba. Charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, are being considered. Critics have highlighted significant lapses in security arrangements, noting that only about 40 police officers were deployed to maintain order at the event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and pledged assistance to the victims. Efforts are underway to provide medical care to the injured and conduct post-mortem examinations on the deceased.
