Ukrainian drones strike Russian oil refineries and a military airfield, causing damage to thermal energy plants.
According to a CNN source, Ukraine carried out drone strikes on Russia’s Kushchevsk military airfield and two oil refineries in the southern Krasnodar region. Described as “explosive,” the strikes resulted in fires at all three locations. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) aims to diminish Moscow’s warfare capability by targeting military and infrastructure sites in Russia. Krasnodar region governor Veniamin Kondratyev previously confirmed an oil refinery was affected by Ukrainian drone attacks launched early Saturday. Russian state media TASS reported the Slavyansk-on-Kuban oil refinery partially suspended operations, as confirmed by Eduard Trudnev, security director of the Slavyansk ECO Group, citing a fire caused by 10 UAVs. Trudnev noted potential hidden damage.
Overnight, Ukrainian thermal energy plants suffered “severe damage” in Russian attacks, per DTEK. Efforts to mitigate the consequences are underway, with injuries reported among power engineers. Regional authorities describe the attacks as “massive.” Despite intercepting 13 missiles in Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and Pavlohrad districts, energy facilities in Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih were damaged, causing fires and injuring a 39-year-old man. Interruptions in water supply occurred in the Kryvyi Rih district. Speaking on the missile barrage, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky remarked that while some were intercepted, global assistance could ensure interception of all missiles and drones. He stressed the need for air defence systems and ample weapons.
On Friday, patients from two Kyiv hospitals were evacuated amid Belarusian claims of soldiers sheltering within, sparking fears of potential attacks. Belarusian KGB head Ivan Tertel alleged soldiers were hiding in the facilities, prompting urgent patient transfers. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko labeled it a provocation, denouncing the claims as a pretext for strikes on critical infrastructure. The Kyiv city administration termed the allegations “absolute lies” aimed at justifying attacks. Videos showed medical staff hastily moving patients and equipment to awaiting ambulances. By Friday evening, all patients were safely relocated, Klitschko confirmed, thanking responders for their swift actions. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) criticised the claims, labelling them as part of psychological operations benefiting Russia.
