Hospitals in central Gaza reported that 40 people were killed in two Israeli airstrikes overnight, occurring within a few hundred metres of each other. Al Aqsa hospital received 29 bodies from one strike, including nine children, while Al Awda hospital reported 11 from the second strike. The attacks happened around 1 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. Tuesday local time (6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Monday ET). Rescue workers are searching for bodies under the rubble of a four-story building in Nuseirat. Witness Ashraf Al Jalees said, “These are innocent civilians buried under the ground, including seven girls. What fault did they have?”
Rami Al Aida, a Civil Defense spokesperson in Central Gaza, stated that crews are “operating in extremely challenging conditions due to a lack of fuel and equipment. We hope to find people alive and appeal to all international organisations for tools, bulldozers, and fuel.” He agreed with others at the site that dozens remain under the rubble. “Over four families are trapped, along with displaced families seeking shelter in and around the building. There are more than 100 people.”
Um Mahmoud tearfully told the news, “My brother arrived from Rafah three days ago, displaced with his wife and five children. Now, we don’t know where they are. He was supposed to leave Gaza, but fate intervened.” Salah Abu Jarada said his brother from Rafah was hit when three floors collapsed on them. “They haven’t been rescued yet.” Witnesses reported a second strike at the UNRWA school in Nuseirat two hours later. Ismail Abu Ghosheh said, “Everything is burnt, and seven people were killed.” Najah Abu Daher added, “There’s no safe place. My son and three relatives were killed. They struck at night, causing chaos and shattered glass.”
