Tragedy at Sea: Adventurous Couple Found Dead After Failed Atlantic Crossing
On July 10, 2024, Canadian authorities discovered the bodies of a British-Canadian couple on Sable Island, off the eastern coast of Canada, following their attempt to sail across the Atlantic Ocean.
Brett Clibbery, 70, and his wife Sarah Packwood, 60, departed from Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia, on June 11 aboard their 42-foot sailboat, SV Theros. Their destination was the Azores, a Portuguese archipelago located over 3,200 kilometers away.
The couple was reported missing on June 18. Nearly a month later, authorities found their bodies in a lifeboat that had washed ashore on Sable Island. The reason for abandoning the SV Theros and transferring to the lifeboat remains unknown. Officials are currently conducting an urgent investigation to determine the cause.
Clibbery and Packwood were known as adventure travelers who documented their journeys on their YouTube channel, Theros Adventures. This particular voyage was part of their “Green Odyssey” project, aimed at demonstrating the feasibility of long-distance travel without fossil fuels, utilizing an electric boat charged by solar panels.
