Obama Poised to Endorse Harris as U.S. Presidential Candidate
Former President Barack Obama is expected to announce his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee in the near future. A source has disclosed to CNN that Obama’s team has already established contact with Harris’s campaign staff.
Obama and Harris have maintained regular communication, with the former president serving as an advisor to Harris throughout their two-decade acquaintance. The source indicated that Obama believes the Democratic Party should adhere to a legitimate candidate selection process, which explains his decision not to immediately endorse Harris following President Biden’s announcement that he would not seek re-election. Nevertheless, Obama views Harris’s initial efforts as impressive.
An advisor to Obama revealed that the former president is adopting the same approach he employed during the 2020 Democratic primary elections. He intends to closely monitor the situation with the aim of fostering party unity once a candidate is selected, regardless of whether it is Harris or another contender.
The Democratic Party is accelerating the process of nominating Harris, having ratified the rules for selecting the presidential candidate on Wednesday. Official voting is anticipated to commence on August 1, with ceremonial votes for the positions of president and vice president, as well as a vote to endorse the party’s policy platform, scheduled to take place during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago from August 19-22.
