Montblanc Celebrates Chinese New Year 2026: An Invitation to Write New Beginnings
A capsule collection by Artistic Director Marco Tomasetta honours the Year of the Horse and the enduring tradition of connection through writing.
More than a moment of festivity, Chinese New Year is a time to reflect, reconnect, and exchange handwritten wishes that carry hope for the year ahead. To welcome the arrival of the Year of the Horse 2026, Montblanc presents a thoughtfully curated assortment of pieces with which to mark the start of a brand new year, an invitation to celebrate new beginnings and rediscover the written word as a timeless expression of human connection.
CHINESE NEW YEAR CAPSULE
Expressed in tones of red and gold, colours that symbolise prosperity and good fortune, each piece in this season’s capsule has been crafted to be a trusted companion for new journeys. At the heart of the capsule lies The Montblanc Horse – an original illustration by Artistic Director Marco Tomasetta that captures the elegant horse as it gallops among clouds, a symbol of steadfast optimism leading into the new year. Emerging from a flowing line drawn by a fountain pen, the infinity-shaped cloud motif that accompanies the horse offers a discrete nod to both Montblanc’s craftsmanship and to Chinese cultural tradition: the ‘infinite 8’ symbol is drawn in such pattern to test the nib of every Montblanc fountain pen, while the number 8 is traditionally seen a symbol of prosperity and good fortune in Chinese culture.

Inspired by the fleeting beauty of the moment right before twilight, the Meisterstück Golden Hour Solitaire captures the reflections of light produced by this magical time of day through an engraved hexagon pattern beneath translucent burgundy-coloured lacquer, complemented by signature gold-coated fittings. A handcrafted solid Au 750 gold nib with a signature gold coating completes this luminous tribute to renewal and creativity, while the Montblanc emblem in precious resin crowns the cap. Paying tribute to Jacques Balmat’s pioneering and fearless ascent of the Mont Blanc in 1786, the Montblanc Star Legacy Moonphase Limited Edition 1786 features an elegant burgundy-coloured glacier-patterned dial adorned with a subtle sfumato effect. The timepiece’s moonphase complication displays an elegant rose gold-coated moon and stars on a deep blue background, surrounded by a round date indicator at six o’clock.
